General Information
  1. Climate
    Malaysia enjoys warm, humid, and sunny weather throughout the year due to tropical climate, but do expect change in temperature, either hot weather, occasional showers, or thunderstorms. The average temperature is ranged between 25°C to 33°C. During the duration of the Forum in September, the country is expected to go through rainy season due to the Southwest Monsoon. Visitors are advised to wear appropriate clothing and bring along an umbrella in case of sudden rain or to provide shade from the sun.

  2. Passport and Visa
    1. All foreigners wishing to enter Malaysia must have a passport or travel documents with duration of stay following the types of Visa applied.
      1. Single Entry Visa
        - Issued for social or business purposes with period not exceeding 3 months from date of issuance
      2. Multiple Entry Visa
        1. Issued for business or inter-governmental affairs, valid for period of 3 to 12 months from date of issuance.
        2. Also eligible for citizens of India and the People’s Republic of China who wish to enter the country for social visits.
        3. Each entry is for not more than 30 consecutive days and extensions are not allowed.
        4. Applicants must show proof of sufficient fund to stay in Malaysia, and possess a valid return ticket
        5. Tour groups are not eligible for this Visa type
        6. A Multiple Entry Visa costs RM 50.00 for Indian Citizen and RM 30.00 for the citizens on the People’s Republic of China
      3. Transit Visa
        1. Issued for Foreign Citizens entering the country while in-transit to another country.
        2. Foreign Citizens who will not be leaving the airport premises and will be journeying via the same flight they arrived with are not required to have a Transit Visa

    4. Not a prohibited person Any person classified under Section 8 of Immigration Act 1959/63 are not allowed entry even with the possession of valid travel documents.

  3. Letter of Invitation
    Invitation letter of other necessary documents to obtain Malaysian Visa will be provided by the Forum Secretariat upon request. However, this letter aims to assist participants in their travels only and does not imply any commitment to financial support. Get in touch early with the Forum Secretariat for requests of invitation letter.

  4. Customs
    Foreigners to Malaysia may enter or leave the country with a maximum of RM 10,000. Duty-free allowance is given to items such as pens, lighters, watches, cameras, up to 20 packs of cigarettes, and 1 liter of liquor. You are prohibited to carry illegal items such as firearms, narcotics, and pornography materials. Refer to Customs Act 1967 for further information.

  5. Currency
    Only Malaysian Ringgit (MYR) is accepted at the local stores and restaurants. Your currency is exchangeable at foreign exchange banks or authorized money changers. The exchange rate fluctuates regularly, so it is advised to check with your bank for the latest exchange rates. As in December 2024, the conversion rate is: USD 1.00 = RM 4.47 EUR 1.00 = RM 4.65

  6. Electric Current
    The local standard voltage is rated at 230/240 V with a standard frequency of 50 Hz. Malaysia uses the British Standard BS-1363 domestic AC power plugs with type G sockets.

  8. Taxi
    Taxis are available at the airport upon arrival. Other car for hire services such as GrabCar is also widely used but requires access via mobile application.

  9. Places of Worship
    Malaysia is a multi-religious and multi-cultural country, allowing for easy access to various places of worship, with some selected as the country’s iconic landmarks. For Muslims, mosques are readily available throughout the urban areas, while shopping malls, airports, hotels, petrol stations are also equipped with smaller prayer rooms. For individuals of other faiths, local residents or hotel staff can usually provide directions for nearby place of worship. Visitors are advised to dress modestly when entering any place of worship in Malaysia. Men are generally required to wear long pants, while women visiting major mosques can borrow robes provided at the entrance.

  10. Safety and Security
    As in many other countries, it is generally best to avoid walking alone in poorly lit areas, whether in the city or countryside. If walking at night is unavoidable, consider traveling in a group. Personal safety should always be a top priority when traveling abroad. Police officers conduct regular patrols in urban areas to ensure public safety. In case of an emergency, you can dial 999 to connect directly to the local emergency call centre.
